Are you having localised neck pain or pain that radiates to your arms and hands? Usually, the neck pain is due to poor posture or a muscle strain, but there are instances when some serious underlying problem might cause the pain.
Here are some signs and symptoms you should be aware of.

  1. Pain in the neck, shoulder, arm, or hand that is sharp, burning, or shooting in nature
  2. Numbness or tingling in the neck, shoulder, arm, or hand
  3. Weakness in the arm, hand, or fingers
  4. Difficulty with fine motor skills, such as buttoning clothes or writing
  5. Loss of sensation or weakness in the leg or foot (if the nerve compression is severe)
  6. Headaches, particularly in the back of the head or at the base of the skull
  7. Dizziness or vertigo
  8. Loss of bladder or bowel control (if the nerve compression is severe)

If you experience any of these symptoms, seeing a doctor as soon as possible is important. Nerve compression in the neck can be caused by a variety of conditions, including herniated discs, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, and osteoarthritis, and early treatment can help prevent further damage.
